Srinagar is located in Kashmir valley at an altitude of 1730 m above sea level. It is spread over the both sides of river Jhelum.The Dal and Nagin lakes enhance its beauty. The picturesque sight and serene backdrops make its atmosphere very exotic. The changing play of the seasons and climate makes it very enduring for the visitors. Akbar captured this Kashmir valley for the Mughals which endowed it with Mosques and beautiful gardens. However in 1819, during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikhs over threw the last Emperor. However in 1947, it was declared the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Chinese, Mughals and British have been attracted to this place. It has exotic waterways which reflect its quaint lifestyle. The water sports are very adventurous and very exciting. The unique houseboat, the blossoming gardens are other attractions.

Shopping for lovingly hand crafted souvenirs give a wide variety of exposure of local crafts. Amira Kadal Bridge in central Srinagar is always hub with activity. Jama Masjid in Srinagar is a place where you can find various folks of Muslim community to offer their prayers and homage to the Darghah of Sufi. Since the riots that have Srinagartaken place in the past few years, the security in various areas of Srinagar has increased considerably. Special police force is deployed for the security of the tourist.God has given this place such a unique beauty that fills the tourist with lots of freshness and pleasure.

The tourism industry is also fast catching up which has suffered due to the past terrorism. The cuisine of this place is very special like its beauty. The food includes various vegetarian and non vegetarian recipes. The Roganjosh, Sheekh kabab and tabak maj are all meat dishes which are cooked with cream and gravy. The Wazawan is another dish which is prepared during the wedding. The special kashmiri chillies are used to give the red color to the dish. There are vegetarian dishes like Dum-Aaloo and Chaman which are also like by the people. The savory taste of these exotic dishes is great.

SrinagarThe presence of various hotels and restaurants in Srinagar serve hot delicacies with lots of hospitality. The bakery items include Tsot and tsochvoru are small round breads topped with poppy and sesame and traditionally washed down with salt tea. The traditional method of baking in breads is used. Sheermal and baqerkhani are the some types without which breakfast is not complete. You can find some bakery items which might have not seen elsewhere. The folk dances and music of this place are great.

The Dal Lake presents a very picturesque sight. The Dal Lake is popular for its vibrancies because it sustains within its periphery, a life that is unique elsewhere in the world. The houseboats and Shikaras communities have been living at this place for centuries. They have complete infrastructure on the lake. There are doctors, tailors or bankers all in the tiny wooden shops on the lake itself. There are acres of vegetables gardens and lotus gardens. Another lake is Nagin Lake which is popular is originally a part of Dal Lake which is separated by a causeway. These causeways are generally used by the bicycle riders or people walking by foot. A visit to Srinagar fills the mind with refreshment and new lease of life.
